There are certain traditions of which we are proud in Auvergne, and cutlery is not the least. Thiers is the historic cradle of French cutlery. For centuries, generations after generations, peasants have been shaping and assembling knives by hand during the long winter months. Grouped together in a factory from the end of the 17th century and the beginning of the 19th century, these blacksmiths and cutlers gradually became professional, perpetrating these gestures learned in their childhood. At the start of the 20th century, the forges and cutlery factories of Thiers still lined the Durole river. Fortunately, there are still a few artisan houses that refuse to give in to the sirens of relocation and who are bent on the only thing left to them: the quality of custom work. Thiers-issard, founded in 1884, the only company to display the elephant ****, the original emblem of Sabatiers kitchen knives is of this breed. Their knives are works of art and we are proud to offer them to you. We have chosen a naturally orange wood, Padouk, also called coral wood, in a nod to the emblematic color of Campinambulle.
